Un événement exceptionnel est présenté dans notre saison cet hiver. La troupe du Théâtre national de Sofia est invitée à Toulouse avec une pièce inédite de l’autrice ukrainienne Sasha Denisova, dans une mise en scène de Galin Stoev : La Haye est un spectacle théâtral puissant et urgent sur le procès imaginaire de Poutine et de sa garde rapprochée devant le tribunal international où ils doivent rendre des comptes post guerre en Ukraine. Cette utopie de justice, présentée au ThéâtredelaCité, est une fiction indispensable pour essayer de comprendre la perversité du pouvoir et l’horreur du monde.

Cette année, je suis rentré en Bulgarie, mon pays natal, pour créer le spectacle La Haye de Sasha Denisova, une autrice ukrainienne. Elle a terminé l’écriture de ce texte au début de l’année 2023 et quand je l’ai découvert, je me suis dit qu’il fallait absolument le présenter en Bulgarie, un pays où la propagande russe marche encore au point de diviser la société.

À la création du spectacle à Sofia il y a quelques jours, j’ai pu voir comment le théâtre peut produire des mouvements tectoniques dans la manière de penser ou de sentir le monde. Au-delà des questions artistiques, ce travail agit sur des questions sociétales qui dépassent largement notre petit univers théâtral.

Dans un état de fatigue généralisée par rapport à cette guerre, je pense que le théâtre peut créer des expériences et des moments de vie qui peuvent surprendre ou bouleverser, et que ce spectacle se place exactement à cet endroit. J’ai pu voir en Bulgarie l’impact que ce travail a sur différentes strates de la société, y compris politiques, sociétales, culturelles et même idéologiques, comme un antidote à la propagande.

An exceptional event is presented in our season this winter. The National Theater of Sofia’s troupe is invited to Toulouse with a new play by the Ukrainian author Sasha Denisova, staged by Galin Stoev: The Hague is a powerful and urgent theatrical show about the imaginary trial of Putin and his guard where they have to answer to the international tribunal for the war in Ukraine. This utopia of justice, showed at the ThéâtredelaCité, is an essential fiction, an attempt to understand the perversity of power and the horror of our world.

This year I returned to Bulgaria, my native country, to create the show The Hague by Sasha Denisova, an Ukrainian author. She finished writing this text at the beginning of 2023 and when I discovered it, I said to myself that it absolutely had to be presented in Bulgaria, a country where Russian propaganda still works to the point of splitting the society.

When the show premiered in Sofia a few days ago, I was able to see how theater can produce tectonic movements on the way of thinking or feeling about the world. Beyond artistic questions, this work addresses societal questions that go far beyond our small theatrical universe.

In a state of general tiredness about this war, I think that theater can create experiences and moments of life that can surprise or upset and this show places itself exactly in that place. I was able to see in Bulgaria this show’s impact on several strata of society, including political, societal, cultural and even ideological, as an antidote to propaganda.
